Most of the symbols in French revolution portray women as the central figure. Even the Statue of Liberty depicts the Roman liberty goddess and portrays women as their central figure. And yet, society today is filled with sexist mindsets and gender discrimination. Women have been breaking unnecessary norms for as long as we have known, but their struggle still continues to this day, especially in the workplace.
Throughout history, women have always fought for their rights and continue to do so in the workplace. Women face many challenges in their workplaces, and one of the main challenges is not being able to earn respect just because of their gender. Furthermore, women are often exploited in their workplace.
Although there is a fair share of work split between men and women in the workplace, most of the work done by women remains unpaid. Unequal employment still remains an issue in most professions to this day, despite this issue being around for hundreds of years. Furthermore, in many areas of work, many women have also experienced cases of verbal, visual, non-verbal and physical harassment, making it very difficult for them to work under or with such people.
Women continue to contribute to society in significant ways. There are many women today who are powerful leaders; some run institutes and others are CEOs of well known brands and companies. There have also been many movements that have been launched for promoting women in industries and developing leadership qualities. In addition, many reservations are made for women. However, they continue to struggle for equality and they still have to fight for their work to be valued. Society puts restrictions and burdens on women because women are required to complete work in the house and in the workplace. As a result, a majority of the work done by women still remains unpaid.
In spite of all hardships in the lives of women, many women have contributed to society, leaving a remarkable legacy. They have also set many great examples for young girls and future female leaders. As someone once said, “A diamond is formed only when there is a lot of pressure and the gold is only in its purest form when it is melted to a very high temperature.”
On a positive note,
A huge salute to all women reading this. Stay happy, and most importantly stay healthy :)
